Freewell Brandon Li 86 mm Variable Density ND/CPL Filter Set

The Freewell Brandon Li 86 mm Cine Kit is a comprehensive set of filters for video and still photography, designed for use in a variety of lighting conditions. It includes a VND/CPL filter with a range of 1–5 stops, an ND32 filter that reduces light by 5 stops, and an 86 mm base ring with a magnetic mounting system. When the VND/CPL is combined with the ND32 filter, light reduction of up to 10 stops can be achieved, making it easier to maintain proper exposure settings even in bright light. The series was developed in collaboration with filmmaker Brandon Li with the aim of enabling efficient use with both photographic and cinematic lenses.

VND/CPL – Exposure Adjustment and Glare Control

The VND/CPL filter allows you to adjust the amount of light reaching the lens within a range of 1 to 5 stops. This makes it easier to use a wide aperture and maintain an appropriate shutter speed when shooting in bright environments. The integrated polarizing function helps reduce reflections from glass, water, and other reflective surfaces, giving you greater control over the appearance of the captured image.

ND32 – an additional 5 stops of light reduction

The kit includes an ND32 filter made of tempered glass, which provides a constant light reduction of 5 stops. It can be used on its own on an 86 mm base ring when a constant reduction value is needed, or in combination with a VND/CPL filter. Combining both elements expands the system’s capabilities to a maximum of 10 stops of light reduction, which is particularly useful when shooting in bright daylight.

86 mm Magnetic Mounting System

The 86 mm base ring allows for quick attachment of system components without the need to spend time screwing in filters each time. The combination of a magnetic mechanism with a locking mechanism enables efficient configuration changes during operation and reduces the number of steps required to change a filter.

Covers and storage accessories

The kit includes front and rear covers that protect the system components during transport and storage. The front cover features an integrated gray card that can be used for quick white balance checks and adjustments. The set also includes a filter case, a cleaning cloth, and a clip/carabiner holder for the case, making it more convenient to carry and use the set on a daily basis.
